Why is the Trinity the Cornerstone of Christianity?
by:
Michael Burkert
The doctrine of the Trinity is not a controversial issue with MILLIONS of professing Christians. Ninety-five percent or better of all professing Christians take the Trinity as a matter of fact. It is a fact... isn't it? Or is it something else? How could literally MILLIONS of nominally Christian men and women around the globe be wrong? Are they wrong? Is the Trinity truly the cornerstone on which modern "Christianity" is built?
Most have no idea of where the idea of the Godhead, consisting of a "Trinity," even comes from. They have no idea of the origin of this doctrine, who wrote it, who conceived of it and how it came to be. Most simply take it for granted that "it's somewhere in the Bible." They don't know where the doctrine of the Trinity is located in the Bible, but firmly believe that if you look hard enough and long enough the Trinity will pop up somewhere. Maybe where you least suspect it.
Many claim that the Trinity is clearly outlined in what is generally known as the "Great Commission." Read in Matthew 28:19: "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost."
There you have it. Jesus was clearly stating that His Father, He and the "Holy Ghost" are a Trinity. Did Jesus really say that, or did He say something entirely different in meaning? Okay then what about 1 John 5:7 in the King James Version? Finally a definitive, clear statement in Scripture. Right? Read what is written in John's first Epistle. Verse 7: "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."
While it's true that Jesus did commission his elect to teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, John did not at any time write the words in his first Epistle as are reflected in Chapter 5, verse 7. Some monk corrupted the original Greek texts. This was no doubt done to "prove" the doctrine of the Trinity. You don't believe me? You say I'm full of hot air? Check this verse in ANY other version of the Bible such as the Revised Standard Edition, American Standard Edition as an example. I even looked in the German Bible, (Luther's version) and did not find these words as written in the King James Version.
Verse 7 should read (and does in the original Greek texts and all other corrected editions) "AND THE SPIRIT IS THE WITNESS, BECAUSE THE SPIRIT IS THE TRUTH."
The doctrine of the Trinity is nowhere to be found in your Bible. IT SIMPLY ISN'T THERE. So how is it that although Jesus Christ NEVER spoke of the Godhead as a Trinity; the disciples NEVER spoke or wrote of any Trinity, yet MILLIONS are required to accept this false doctrine. Over the centuries, a concerted effort has been made by so-called "Christian" scholars to change and pervert the Word of God. Paul warned us about a false gospel that was already appearing in the first century, not long after the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Twisted and perverted doctrines have continued to this day.
The Trinity doctrine IGNORES God's true plan for us and for earth. It obscures the Scriptural reality that God is reproducing after His own kind. Yes, that's correct. Jesus Christ was the firstborn of many brethren. Hebrews 2:10 reveals, "For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through suffering." This verse from Hebrews clearly states that the Eternal God will bring many sons to glory!
Most nominal Christians firmly believe that they are going to heaven and will spend eternity "praising God." The Trinity doctrine once again limits, obfuscates and distorts the Eternal's clear and stated plan for mankind.
The Trinity doctrine limits God to a supposed three persons. It DESTROYS the very gospel of Jesus Christ! His gospel is the good news of the now soon-coming KINGDOM OF GOD - the only hope for this world.
The Trinity doctrine, by contrast, is the doctrine of the great false religion called in Revelation 17:5: "Mystery, Babylon the great, the mother of harlots and abominations of the earth." By that doctrine, along with others, Satan has DECEIVED all traditional Christianity.
The generally accepted teaching of traditional Christianity is that God is a Trinity - God in three persons Father, Son and Holy Spirit (which is often called a "Ghost"). How did this "Trinity" doctrine enter traditional Christianity?
It most certainly did not come from the Bible! I offered a quote from Revelation 12:9 saying that all nations have been deceived by Satan the devil. How, then, did the cunning and devious Satan introduce this doctrine into "Christianity?
The history of this question is interesting. It seems incredible that a being like Satan not only could have deceived the whole world, but also "Christianity," the very religion bearing Christ's name and supposed to be his true religion. Yet, ironically, Satan did!
He did it through his great false church, started A.D. 33 by Simon the Sorcerer, described in the 8th chapter of the book of Acts as the leader of the Babylonian mystery religion in Samaria. It is recorded in II Kings 17:23-24 that Shalmaneser, king of Assyria, who had invaded and conquered the northern kingdom - the kingdom of Israel - moved the people out of their land of Samaria, north of Jerusalem, and moved into that land people of the Babylonish mystery religion from the provinces of Babylon. They were, of course, gentiles. They inhabited this area of northern Palestine in the time of Christ. The Jews of Judea in Christ's time would have nothing to do with them, calling them contemptuously "dogs." They still adhered to this pagan Babylonish mystery religion in the first century.
In A.D. 33, two years after Jesus Christ from heaven founded the Church of God on that day of Pentecost, the deacon Philip, who later became an evangelist, went down to Samaria and preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This Simon the Sorcerer came with the crowd to hear him. Simon had bewitched the people of that country, and they followed him as their leader in the Babylonian mystery religion "from the least to the greatest, saying, "This man is the great power of God" (Acts 8:10).
When the people believed Philip, preaching the Kingdom of God, they were baptized, and Simon managed to be baptized as well. Then Simon came to the apostles Peter and John, offering money as a bribe, asking them to give him the power to lay hands on people and have them receive the Holy Spirit. Peter rebuked him strongly. But Simon proclaimed himself a Christian apostle, nevertheless, and called the pagan Babylonian mystery religion "Christianity." He accepted the doctrine of "grace" for the forgiveness of sin (which the pagan religions had never had), but turned grace into license to disobey God (Jude 4). He aspired to turn his pagan religion, under the name "Christianity," into a UNIVERSAL or catholic religion, to gain thereby the political rule of the world.
Simon, the "eater" (Peter) of his counterfeit religion, did not accomplish this in his lifetime. However, succeeding leaders with the headquarters moved to Rome, did later gain political control over the Roman Empire and its medieval successor, called "Me Holy Roman Empire." The current European Union, or E.U. is the precursor to the seventh and final reiteration of the Holy Roman Empire.
Today's nominal Christian churches either recite the Athanasian Creed, the so-called Apostle's Creed, the Doxology or whatever that reinforces the false concept of a "Trinity." The belief that the Eternal God is a Trinity is so deeply entrenched in the minds of MILLIONS that no reasoning, no Scriptural or other evidentiary material that clearly disproves this deception of Satan can dislodge the notion of a "Trinity."
Few understand that the thousands of nominal Christian churches essentially believe in the very FOUNDING DOCTRINE of the Roman Catholic Church. Few understand that the majority of nominal Christian beliefs, practices and rituals are directly descended from the church of Rome. If you point this fact out, you are asking for a firestorm of denial, and most likely a display of self-righteousness. Millions of professing "Christians" hold the core belief of the Godhead consisting of a Trinity yet are unable to find the word "Trinity" anywhere in the Bible. If the Trinity in reality, was the foundation of the Christian faith, wouldn't you suppose that Jesus or His disciples would have even at least mentioned it?
Not a single verse or parable in any of the four Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke or John EVEN MENTION THE WORD! Was Jesus absentminded or forgetful? Were the apostles such as Paul, Peter, and others off in a fog somewhere? Not likely. Paul, divinely inspired, did write in 1 Corinthians 8:6, "But to us
there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we in him." Did Paul just "forget" to include the "Holy Ghost" here? He most emphatically did not. There is no Trinity. There never was, nor will there ever be.
Of course the same holds true for the false doctrine of the "eternal soul." This belief is nearly universal amongst nominal Christians, yet found nowhere in your Bible! Nonetheless, literally hundreds of MILLIONS firmly believe in the "eternal soul" as fervently and as strongly as they believe the Trinity is a GOD GIVEN FACT! Satan, current ruler of this world has done a remarkable job at deception. In closing, I will once again quote Revelation 12:9: "Satan which DECEIVETH the whole world."
We are now entering the period the Bible refers to as the end times. The Kingdom of God is soon to be established on this earth. The really good news is that literally BILLIONS of resurrected men and women are going to finally hear the truth of the Gospel and have the opportunity to be brought to glory. Pray each day, Thy Kingdom come Father, soon please!
