There is a theory of logic for determining the age of ancient relics. It says that if you walk into a room with ten working clocks and eight of those clocks read the same hour, minute and second but two of them are different the safest assumption is that the eight clocks are correct.

That concept comes into play when looking at the cause of world pandemics. When scientists seek to find the cause of the current Coronavirus, it is as if they have walked into a room filled with clocks, most of which tell the same story. Too many indicators point to foods consumed by Chinese citizens as the cause of the current Coronavirus. It is too easy to say that it is nobody's business what is eaten by a citizen of China. He's on the other side of the earth. If he wants to eat bat soup or snakes or eels or penguin or rats, what is that to any of the rest of us?

We've just discovered that it means a lot to the world outside China.

Over the last few months this pandemic has spread around the world infecting at least 200,000 people, and probably many more. It has killed over 8,000 with predictions that it could kill multiple millions if a cure is not found immediately. It threatens to destroy the economy of the world causing a severe global depression sending billions of people into starvation. People around the world are quarantined in their homes, unable to go to work. In the United States businesses are shuttered to prevent the spread of the disease and many will never reopen. Schools have closed, churches can't open their doors to worshipers, friends can't shake hands and panic has set in around the globe. People walk around covered with masks reminiscent of the barroom scene in the movie Star Wars.

Why? The simple reason is that there are people who want to eat meats that were never designed by God for human consumption. And the leaders of China who are willing to kill citizens that disagree with them won't even close the food markets.

Worse, this is not the first such catastrophe. The 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic that at least one noted scholar, Dr. Dorsey Armstrong, says killed over 500 million people worldwide started in China. Again, food is a suspected culprit.

The Black Plague which killed half of the world's population began among the Mongols and Chinese. Then there was the bird flu-yes, consuming weird birds which caused a zoonotic (meaning it was a disease that transferred from animals to humans) transfer.

There is a plethora of evidence to support the fact that many disease pandemics started in China and that they are often traced back to their dietary habits.

There are two overwhelming truths from this. God has the authority to distinguish between right and wrong and He gave us laws for the benefit of mankind. When the local health department examines a restaurant to see if it meets standards for serving food to customers, they have the authority to tell the restaurant what animals aren't good for human consumption. Is it so hard to conceive that God had the health of mankind in mind when He inspired Leviticus 11 to be immortalized in scripture? Is the county health department being burdensome or legalistic when they impose standards of food preparation and cleanliness? So why is God accused of that?

The second factor is this. The laws of God were made for all men-not just the Jews. It is the Chinese who have suffered most severely from the Coronavirus. Non-observant Jews suffer the same fate as gentiles if they disobey the laws.

Rudyard Kipling described the proclivity of humans to ignore basic laws of nature and repeat mistakes of the past in his poem, "The Gods of the Copybook Headings." He described the escalation of problems that result in the same calamity,

"Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,

And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: 'The Wages of Sin is Death.'"
