Lesson: Revelation 19 - Jesus Christ Returns and Defeats the Beast

Email: info@icogsfg.org

SCRIPTURE READING: Revelation  19:1-21

GOLDEN TEXT:  Revelation 19:11

In Revelation 19 we pick up the story flow from the end of Revelation 16. Revelation 16 brought us to the seventh bowl or final plague of the seven last plagues which signals the return of Jesus Christ.

1. Did the apostle John hear a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven? (Revelation 19:1). Were these angels praising God? How many angels were there? (Revelation 5:11). Was there a great multitude of angels praising God when Jesus was born? (Luke 2:11-14.)

Request our free article: "What Do Angels Do?" for more information on this topic.

Note: Alleluia and Hallelujah means "Praise the Lord". This word occurs only in this chapter in the entire New Testament.

2. Are God’s judgments true and righteous? (Revelation 19:2, 16:5-7,Psalms 19:9). Does God judge the great harlot and avenge on her the blood of His servants? (Rev. 19:2.)

3. Does the punishment of the great harlot come in one hour and is she burned with fire? (Revelation 18:8-10.) Does her smoke ascend up forever? (Revelation 19:3.) Are the angels praising God saying "Alleluia".

Note: ‘Burned with fire’ is a reference to the sixth trump and the one hour nuclear war. The smoke of her destruction ascends up into our atmosphere and vanishes away forever.

4. Do the angelic twenty-four elders and living creatures praise God? (Rev. 19:4.)

5. Does God’s servants praise Him? (Revelation 19:5.)

Note: God’s servants here at this time would also include the Saints who have been resurrected in the first resurrection.

6. What does the great multitude of angels say in praising God? (Revelation 19:6.)

Note: The word "Omnipotent" means "almighty, having virtually unlimited authority or influence, absolute sovereign." The words "omniscient" (having infinite awareness and total knowledge) and "omnipresent" (present in all places at all times) are not in the Bible. God is Omnipotent but not omniscient nor omnipresent. God does not know if you will make it into His Kingdom but He wants all men to repent (Acts 17:30, 1 John 3:15.)

7. Is there rejoicing over the marriage of the Lamb? (Revelation 19:7). Who is the Lamb? (John 1:29, 36.) Who is the wife? (Ephesians 5:23-27.)

Note: The time has come for the wedding feast of Jesus Christ when He marries His Bride, the Church. The marriage custom in the Bible is composed of two phases: the betrothal phase and then a year later the celebration phase when the marriage is consummated.

Request our free article: "Marriage of the Lamb" for more information on this topic.

8. One of the highlights of a wedding is the beautiful dress of the bride. How will the Bride of Christ be arrayed? (Revelation 19:8.) What is required of the Saints? What is righteousness? (Psalms 119:172.)

9. Are those who are called to the marriage supper blessed? (Rev. 19:9.) Did Jesus give two parables regarding wedding banquets? (Matthew 22:1-14, Luke 14:12-24.)

Note: These parables indicate that the wedding supper will be at the first resurrection when Christ returns. He will gather the Saints and they will go to God’s house in heaven to the wedding banquet.

10. Is the apostle John admonished by one of the angels of the great multitude not to worship angels? (Revelation 19:10.) Who did the angel say that we are to worship? Is the testimony of Jesus the spirit of prophecy?

Note: The book of Revelation is the revealing or testimony of Jesus Christ. Jesus is telling us through His spirit about these prophetic events at the end of this age.

11. Is Jesus on the white horse and is He called faithful and true? (Revelation 19:11, 1:5, John 5:20, 8:14.) Does Jesus Christ judge righteously and does He make war? (Revelation 19:11.) Did the apostle John see heaven opened? (Rev. 19:11,4:11, 11:19, 15:5.) Was heaven closed at the beginning of the seven last plagues? (Revelation 15:8.)

Note: It is interesting to note that throughout the book of Revelation that access to heaven is opened and closed. For it to be opened, it has had to be closed. Access to heaven was closed at the beginning of the seven last plagues and remained closed through the seven last plagues and through the marriage ceremony of Christ and the Saints and then it was opened so Christ and the army of Saints could return to the earth.

12. Are Jesus’ eyes like a flame of fire and is He wearing many crowns? (Revelation 19:12, 1:12-16, 2:18.) Is He called King of Kings in Rev. 19:16? He is wearing many crowns because He is King of Kings.

13. Was Jesus’ robe dipped in blood? (Revelation 19:13.) Is His name called The Word of God? (John 1:1-3.)

14. Are these armies in heaven clothed in fine linen, white and clean? (Revelation 19:14, 8.) These armies are the resurrected Saints, the wife of Christ. Did they follow Jesus on white horses? Do some angels look like animals? (Revelation 4:6-8.)

Note: Some angels may appear to look like men (not women) but others look like animals. On the humorous side, be careful in saying to your wife or girl friend that she has the face of an angel. It could be interpreted that you are saying that she has the face of a calf or an ox as translated in the N.I.V.

Note: In Psalms 18:2, David wrote: "The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;" ... {10} "And He rode upon a cherub, and flew; He flew upon the wings of the wind." (See also 2 Samuel 22:11.) A cherub is an angel and perhaps they look like horses with wings. Christ and the army of Saints will be riding on white angelic horses.

15. Where did the sharp sword come from? (Revelation 19:15.) Will Christ rule with a rod of iron? Does He Himself tread the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God? Is the sword the word of God? (Ephesians 6:17, Hebrews 4:12, Revelation 1:16, 2:12, 16, 19:21.) The word of God is like a sword that cuts, and it tells you what is right and wrong and it convicts you of sin.

16. What kind of a garment is Jesus wearing and what is written on His thigh? (Revelation 19:16.)

Note: Jesus may be wearing a banner on His robe with the long title of "KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS," with the banner going from his shoulder to His thigh. Girls in beauty pageants wear banners that might have their state name on it, such as: "Miss Ohio."

17. Did the apostle John see and hear an angel say to all of the birds: "Come and gather together for the supper of the great God?" (Revelation 19:17.) What were these birds going to have for supper? (Verse 18.) Who gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army? (Verse 19.)

Note: This is not the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. It is a supper of dead men. The sixth of the seven last plagues was the bowl poured out that caused the three frog like demons to go into the world and draw all of the armies together into the place called Armageddon (Revelation 16:14) to the battle of the great day of God Almighty. They are gathered to make war with the returning Jesus Christ and His army of Saints.

Note: The word ‘Armageddon’ is a Greek form of the Hebrew name ‘har Megiddo’. This is the site of the ancient city of Megiddo, which is about 55 miles northwest of Jerusalem, and about 15 miles inland from the Mediterranean Sea. Anciently, Megiddo and the Valley of Megiddo (on the southern border of the Plain of Esdraelon) was an important military site that guarded a nearby strategic pass. For ancient Israel, Megiddo and the Plain of Esdraelon (also known as theValley of Jezreel) became the battle ground of the centuries.

18. What two individuals were captured? (Revelation 19:20.) What was the false prophet guilty of? Where were they cast alive into?

Note: This is A ‘lake of fire’ not THE ‘lake of fire’. The ‘lake of fire’ is the second death which is ‘hell’ and is described in Revelation 20:13-15 and does not occur until after the 1,000 year millennial reign of Jesus Christ. The Beast and the False Prophet will be cast alive into a ‘lake of fire burning with brimstone’. Notice that the fire and brimstone was the same punishment that God gave to Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19:24, Luke 17:29.)

19. What happened to the rest or remnant of them? (Revelation 19:21.) What proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse?

Note: The "rest of them" is a reference to the two hundred million man army that will be slaughtered by Christ at His return.

20. Does the prophet Joel prophesy about this moment in time? (Joel 3:11-14). Will the nations come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat and will they be judged? (Verse 12). Is there a great multitude in the valley of decision? (Verse 14).

Note: The word ‘Jehoshaphat’ means Jehovah the Lord has judged. The great multitude is a reference to the two hundred million man army that will be slaughtered by Christ at His return.

In Conclusion: Jesus Christ is coming again and He has some unfinished business to take care of here on planet earth. He will deal harshly with those who have the mark of the beast and those who are evil and rebellious. How can you avoid the mark of the beast? Repent and obey God by keeping His Ten Commandments including the Fourth Commandment to Remember the (seventh day Saturday) Sabbath and keep it holy.

Scriptures

Scripture Reading:

Hallelujah!

(Revelation 19 NKJV) After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, "Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God! {2} "For true and righteous are His judgments, because He has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication; and He has avenged on her the blood of His servants shed by her." {3} Again they said, "Alleluia! Her smoke rises up forever and ever!" {4} And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who sat on the throne, saying, "Amen! Alleluia!" {5} Then a voice came from the throne, saying, "Praise our God, all you His servants and those who fear Him, both small and great!" {6} And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, "Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns! {7} "Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready." {8} And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. {9} Then he said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!' " And he said to me, "These are the true sayings of God." {10} And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, "See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

The Rider on the White Horse

{11} Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. {12} His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. {13} He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. {14} And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. {15} Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. {16} And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. {17} Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, "Come and gather together for the supper of the great God, {18} "that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great." {19} And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. {20} Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. {21} And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh.

(Revelation 16:5-7 NKJV) And I heard the angel of the waters saying: "You are righteous, O Lord, The One who is and who was and who is to be, Because You have judged these things. {6} For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, And You have given them blood to drink. For it is their just due." {7} And I heard another from the altar saying, "Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments."

The Parable of the Wedding Banquet

(Matthew 22:1-14 NKJV) And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said: {2} "The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, {3} "and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come. {4} "Again, he sent out other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, "See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding."' {5} "But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business. {6} "And the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them. {7} "But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. {8} "Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. {9} 'Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.' {10} "So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests. {11} "But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. {12} "So he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?' And he was speechless. {13} "Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' {14} "For many are called, but few are chosen."

(Luke 14:12-24 NKJV) Then He also said to him who invited Him, "When you give a dinner or a supper, do not ask your friends, your brothers, your relatives, nor rich neighbors, lest they also invite you back, and you be repaid. {13} "But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind. {14} "And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just."

The Parable of the Great Banquet

{15} Now when one of those who sat at the table with Him heard these things, he said to Him, "Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!" {16} Then He said to him, "A certain man gave a great supper and invited many, {17} "and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, 'Come, for all things are now ready.' {18} "But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.' {19} "And another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.' {20} "Still another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.' {21} "So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, 'Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.' {22} "And the servant said, 'Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room.' {23} "Then the master said to the servant, 'Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. {24} 'For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper.'"

(John 8:14 NKJV) Jesus answered and said to them, "Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going.

The Throne in Heaven

(Revelation 1:12-16 NKJV) Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, {13} and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. {14} His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; {15} His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters; {16} He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength.

(Revelation 1:16 NKJV) He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength.

To the Church in Pergamum

(Joel 3:11-14 NKJV) Assemble and come, all you nations, And gather together all around. Come, go down; For the winepress is full, The vats overflow; For their wickedness is great." {14} Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.
